Janis:

Janis worked for 12 years in configuration software management until she suffered an unexpected medical tragedy. Ten years ago, an episode of hydrocephalus left her with an acquired brain injury that left her with short term memory deficits, leading to a loss of her career and independence. Janis now lives in assisted living where she is making friends and working to become more active. She describes herself as a smart country gal who loves animals, especially horses and dogs!

Janis has the following needs:

• Volunteer support to become more active - she especially wants to return to exercise and exploration activities!
• Monthly sponsorship to cover incidental and transportation expenses

Ericka:

Ericka is a proud mother of 2 wonderful adult children! She is a brain and breast cancer survivor who is permanently disabled from the lasting effects of her cancer. Ericka lives in an assisted living facility where she is very active in the facility’s community activities. She was previously a private chef and notes that food is definitely her love language! Erica is super crafty and loves art projects, including jewelry making. She is a kind soul who loves to give gifts that she has made to those around her!

Ericka has the following needs:

• Volunteers who want to play table games, enjoy doing nails, or want to join her in crocheting
• Monthly sponsorship to cover incidental and transportation expenses

Cat:

Cat describes herself as “differently abled but adorable” - and we would have to agree with that assessment! She doesn’t mind sharing that her disabilities include schizophrenia and severe fibromyalgia. Cat has very little family or peer support and is lacking long lasting friendships. Her goals are to go back to school and work part time if possible; she is working hard to regain some of her individual independence!  

Cat has the following needs:

• Volunteers to help support her in reaching her goals of independence
• Monthly sponsorship to cover incidental and transportation expenses

Tony:

Tony suffered a brain injury several years ago and has been living ever since with this invisible disability. While Tony is able to walk, talk, and carry on superficial social interactions, his disability causes many issues that make it impossible for him to complete complex tasks or hold down a long term job.

PSN has helped Tony with:

• Transportation and lodging for necessary medical procedures
• Consolidation of bills to a more manageable level
• Assistance with food, housing, and vehicle expenses

Tony has the following needs:

• Monthly sponsorship to cover groceries, gas, and storage fees
• Volunteers to assist with organizational skills
• Wants: gift cards for restaurants for a nice evening out

​Megan:

Megan was a high school English teacher who inspired her students to appreciate the classics by transforming her classroom into a scene from Othello or showing up in class dressed as a character from The Great Gatsby. In 2008 Megan suffered a traumatic brain injury that left her without the ability to put thoughts and words together in a coherent manner. She is now an author and an advocate for Traumatic Brain Injury awareness. Despite her accomplishments, Megan continues to live with an invisible disability that keeps her from fully engaging with her community like she once did.

Kecia:

​In 2018, Kecia was bedbound, unable to speak, and without a place to live

Today, with the help of PSN, she:

• Lives in an assisted living facility
•  Has mobility with an electric wheelchair
•  Has a full functional vocabulary
•  Participates in weekly church services
•  Goes to weekly enrichment, exercise, and recreation therapy
•  Has a group of peers she loves to spend time with

​Kecia has the following needs:

• Financial: $300 per month for transportation and incidentals
• Material: Clothing (women’s size 2x). Toiletries/ self-care items appropriate to her age and race.
• Volunteer: Personal & social interactions. Legal services. Aesthetic services i.e. salon services (hair care, skin care, nail care). Exercise/ personal training assistance. Transportation assistance using bus services.
• Wants: Gift cards for grocery stores, restaurants, or chain stores; fashion accessories.

Sarah:
In 2019, Sarah’s mobility was decreasing, and her support system was becoming overwhelmed.

With the help of PSN, she has

•  Attended art classes
• Created art for local non-profits and hospitals

Sarah has the following needs:

• Someone to provide companionship, to talk to her and go out for a walk with her from time to time
• Someone to assist with grocery shopping, meal preparation, and basic errands
• Financial support for groceries due to strict dietary needs

Jimmy:

•  In 2019, Jimmy suffered a neurologic incident that turned his life upside down.​
•  PSN helped Jimmy
  •  Find a long-term rehab facility where he relearned forgotten skills
  •  Regain  purpose
  •  Move back to his home state, where he now lives independently
  •  Furnish and apartment near his family
